OCP CANANDAIGUA DIRECTOR: DAWN DENNIS
My name is Dawn Dennis. I am the Director of Our Children’s Place at the Canandaigua site. I have worked for CCDP, Inc. since September 1991. During my senior year in High School, I worked with the toddlers at our Clifton site. I knew I wanted to be able to help children learn in their early years. I wanted to teach them the skills they would need to have a strong foundation for learning as the children grew. I started out as a teacher. I worked with every age group, from six weeks of age through age twelve. I became the Preschool Coordinator in 2000. In 2005, I was asked to also be the School Age Coordinator at our Clifton Springs site. In 2010, the Executive Director offered me the position at our school age site at the VA. I worked really hard and made the program a quality program. In 2012, we moved back to our main site in Canandaigua so we could all be in one building again. I began in the Director’s position for the Infants through Preschool classrooms on July 1st, 2014.
I am one of ten children and have babysat for others since 11 years old. I attended Finger Lakes Vocational Center for Early Childhood and earned a two year certificate in 1992. I received my Childhood Development Associate Certificate specializing in Infant/Toddler Care in 1996. I completed the requirements for a School Age Credential in 2011. I am currently working toward a Bachelor’s degree at Empire State College. I attend trainings on the most update information about Early Childhood Education and what is best for children throughout each year. You are your child’s first teacher. I want to support you and your child to make sure he/she has the best foundation for learning possible for school.
I am thrilled to be married to my husband Chris. We have two sons. I am so proud that I get to be their mom. As a family, we enjoy sports and outdoor activities.
